Following the launch of the incredibly successful Nintendo DS Lite in June 2006, Nintendo has now released its latest portable games console – the Nintendo DSi.
So what’s new in Nintendo’s latest console, and how does the new version differ from the original DS Lite?
Firstly, as announced by Nintendo, the latest model does not feature a GBA port, which, to the disappointment of many a music fan, means it cannot be used to play Guitar Hero.
The new DSi does, however, have a more compact design, and although this means slightly less battery life, it can still be played for a maximum of 14 hours per charge.
The two screens have been enhanced, boasting a bigger size and improved colour quality for even greater gaming. In fact, that slightly pinkish tint characteristic to DS Lite screens has now made way for sharper colours with a purer, crisper white.
Brand new features in the DSi include wireless connectivity and direct access to the Nintendo DSi online shop for news and updates, or for downloading games or applications for the console.
The new model can also take photos with lenses both on the inside and outside of the console. You can then touch up your shots using the built-in photo-editing application and share them via a wireless network or by saving them to an SD card.
Moreover, you can now import AAC-format music to your DSi, although this will require any MP3 tracks to be converted or reformatted. Plus, with the new music studio feature, you can edit all your tracks and audio recordings directly on the console.
The Nintendo DSi boasts enhanced features and brand new ones, with a handy stylus allowing you to browse using the touch screen, wireless connectivity, an integrated sound studio, a digital camera with a photo editing application, improved picture quality, and SD storage.
All this new technology more than compensates for the slight reduction in battery life and lack of GBA port. Plus, with boosted interactivity and an even easier-to-use design, the new DSi is a compact console that has something for everyone.
